Is that Yonu – or a Stormtrooper?!

July 24, 2008

As it turned out, my penultimate day at Worwick saw a whole lotta playin’ around with my kids. We danced to Dire Straits live in class (Money for Nothin’!), we drew and colored pictures, and we ate pizza and chips and ice cream! It was an all-around fun day, with narry an open book in sight. Woot! When the afternoon rolled around, it was all but inevitable that there was going to be only one thing to do to pass the time: watch Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope! And so, when the movie rolled, and the rebel blockade runner had been taken over by the big, bad Star Destroyer, and the inexorable Stormtroopers came through the door – well, it was all that my little Yonu could take. She had to immitate them. When I heard her yell, “David Teacher, look!”, I turned and saw her seated with her hands up. I asked her if she was one of those “white guys”, and she said “Uh huh!”

My work here is done.

The TRUE nature of Delphinus Class:

July 20, 2008

I THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINK this picture pretty much says it all about the true nature of my class, Delphinus. Not pictured: the rest of the circus. ;-)

Pop Culture influence.

July 5, 2008

Believe it or not, I did NOT have much influence in my children learning and singing key compositions by master maestro, John Williams. Like a thunder-clap above one’s head on a calm sunny Spring day, my boys Alex and Regollas (yes, that’s an “r/l” Asian mis-translation) came into class, and were pontificating on all things Star Wars and Indiana Jones! It was as if I had won the lottery. What was I going to do, NOT encourage such extra-curricular activities?! I ask you! So anyway, enjoy the video I took recently, when I decided it would be more fun to talk about “Who’s stronger?”, rather than do phonics. Ahhh, the glories of education!

JJ can Wii-ly have fun!

July 5, 2008

This was taken awhile ago (a few weeks) at one of my old kindergarten student’s house, Naomi. Her mother invited Jen and I over to their house for some dinner, chatting, and then a fun-filled evening of games with the Nintendo Wii! Anxious to get my hands on this hot console, we of course accepted immediately. :-) Needless to say, the dinner was delicious, and it was a very fun time playing Wii Sports, even though I got my butt handed to me in baseball! Jen and I did have much better success at Golf and Bowling, however. All in all, it was a fun time, and I was impressed with the Wii’s simplicity and ease-of-use. Can’t wait to pick one up, and continue the battle between JJ and I in bowling. :-)

Walkin’ like ducks:

Proof that my father can make my students walk like ducks! :-)

The Shea’s rocked Delphinus Class!

May 9, 2008

Yes, it’s true – BELIEVE IT, true believers! – John and Diana Shea (on John’s first passport and trip out of North America EVER!) came to visit JJ and I here in little ol’ Bundang, South Korea!!! WOOT! We had an absolutely fantastical, dynamical, wonderfully wonderful time! The weather was PERFECT, we had everything planned down to the nanosecond, and all went smooth as soju! Ok, that’s not very smooth – how about smooth as whipped Midwestern butter? Anyway, stay tuned for a novel-sized, Dave Shea recap of the entire sojourn and adventures of Ma and Pa Shea, but for now, enjoy this shot of my parents in my Delphinus class. The kids, both mine and Jen’s, absolutely LOVED having our parents here! They all made them cards, and asked them tons of questions in English! It was so much fun. For ALL the pictures of Ma and Pa Shea, head over to the Photo Galleries section on the right, and click on the “Sheas in Korea!” album. Enjoy!

April 27, 2008

Please enjoy the following instructional video, supported by a grant from the National Korean Heritage Foundation, on how to eat Kimchi, Korea’s most famous product, with a, as the natives say, “strong tongue”. Take it away, Aquila Class! :-)

Flat Stanely Cometh!

April 5, 2008

We recently had a visitor all the way from Moorhead, MN! Jen’s sister, Alissa, is a 2nd grade teacher in Moorhead and her students just finished reading the story “The Adventures of Flat Stanley”. After making their own Flat Stanleys to send on new adventures, one of them made it all the way to Korea! Our kids were a little nervous about him at first, but they became quick friends with Stanley and were sad when he had to go home!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand – they’re ready to rock! :-)
